Chairperson Carli Kooper visited Jakarta from January to April 2013 for her master's research for International Development Studies. She investigated the accessibility of tertiary education in Indonesia, by looking at already existing scholarship programs. In addition, she researched how students from two different universities experience studying, and whether receiving a scholarship influences this. The research has yielded lots of valuable information for the Heliconia Scholarship Foundation, that enables us to improve our working methods, also when we grow in the future.
Carli and our cooperation partner Mili Chana met each other every weekend in Jakarta. They spend lots of time discussing work topics and getting to know each other on a deeper personal level. Carli also saw all the students again (Susanah, Veronica and Sherly) and visited their homes. It was the first time that Naomi and Carli got to know each other. A few years later, Naomi became our official second cooperation partner. It was a very nice, special and bonding time!
Read more about the research in Carli's master thesis 'Scholarships For Higher Education and Wellbeing in Jakarta' and on her weblog (in Dutch).
